🌏✨ Culture Connect: Exploring Identity & Inspiring Inclusion

🎒 An Afterschool Leadership Lab for Ages 12–14

🔍 Deep Discovery. Real Stories. Meaningful Connections.

Early teens are shaping their identities and beginning to ask big questions about who they are—and where they come from. Culture Connect invites students to explore culture as a living, breathing part of identity, community, and social justice. Through critical storytelling, creative projects, and youth-led initiatives, students develop empathy, cultural awareness, and leadership skills to celebrate diversity and build inclusive communities.

🧭 How It Works

Culture Connect empowers students to lead their own learning journeys through:

📖 Critical Storytelling & Reflection: Analyzing cultural narratives, histories, and media representations to understand identity, power, and inclusion.

🎨 Creative Expression & Cultural Arts: Engaging with traditional and contemporary arts—from poetry and spoken word to visual arts and multimedia storytelling.

🤝 Social-Emotional Learning (SEL): Building empathy, cultural humility, and communication skills for respectful dialogue.

🗣️ Youth Leadership & Advocacy: Designing and implementing projects that celebrate culture, challenge stereotypes, and promote equity.

🌍 Community Engagement: Connecting with local cultural groups, guest speakers, or virtual exchanges to broaden perspectives.

🛠️ Sample Projects + Initiatives

Students choose or co-create meaningful cultural explorations, such as:

📚 Cultural Narrative Podcast: Research and produce a podcast episode exploring cultural traditions, family histories, or contemporary issues.

🎭 Heritage Arts Workshop: Curate and lead a workshop teaching peers a traditional craft, dance, or storytelling form from their culture.

📢 Campaign Against Stereotypes: Develop a multimedia campaign addressing cultural stereotypes or promoting cultural pride and understanding.

🖌️ Community Mural or Digital Gallery: Design and create a public mural or online gallery celebrating community diversity.

💬 Dialogue Circles: Facilitate peer-led discussions on identity, culture, and inclusion to build empathy and understanding.

🎉 Culture Connect Expo

At the program’s close, students organize a Culture Connect Expo featuring:

🎤 Presentations, performances, and screenings of student projects
🎨 An art exhibit or digital gallery of creative works
🤝 Interactive workshops or cultural demonstrations led by students
