🌍🌟 Earth Catalyst: Youth Leading the Environmental Future
🎒 An Afterschool Leadership Lab for Ages 15–18
🧠 Informed Minds. Brave Voices. Transformative Action.
High school students aren’t just learning about environmental problems—they’re building real solutions. Earth Catalyst is a powerful, youth-led afterschool program where students explore environmental systems, justice, and innovation—and take direct action to solve real-world challenges in their schools, neighborhoods, and beyond. It’s not just a program. It’s a launchpad for environmental leadership.
🧭 How It Works
Earth Catalyst combines leadership development with action-based learning through:
🌱 Environmental Systems Thinking: Explore the science, equity, and policy behind issues like land use, biodiversity, pollution, food systems, and climate change.
⚙️ Design for Change: Use Human-Centered Design to solve community-specific environmental problems through Empathize → Define → Ideate → Prototype → Test → Reflect → Launch.
📢 Civic Engagement & Advocacy: Learn how to write policy briefs, organize campaigns, and influence decision-makers at the local and national levels.
🤝 Youth-Led Project Teams: Students take full ownership of projects—leading, building, testing, and scaling solutions with guidance from mentors and community partners.
🛠️ Sample Projects + Initiatives
Students choose focus areas based on their interests and local needs. Possible initiatives include:
🌿 Urban Greening & Climate Resilience
Turn vacant lots into green spaces, launch tree-planting drives, or design green infrastructure solutions for local flooding or heat islands.
♻️ Zero-Waste School Campaigns
Lead waste audits, reduce cafeteria food waste, and introduce long-term recycling and compost systems.
📊 Environmental Justice Mapping Projects
Use GIS tools to explore and present disparities in pollution, green access, or resource availability across communities.
📣 Policy & Activism Labs
Draft and promote climate-related resolutions, testify at school board or city council meetings, or create digital campaigns around environmental justice.
🎥 Multimedia Storytelling for Change
Produce films, podcasts, photo essays, or online exhibits showcasing climate issues, solutions, and local environmental heroes.
🎉 Earth Catalyst Youth Forum
The program concludes with a high-energy Earth Catalyst Youth Forum, where students:
🎤 Pitch their projects to school leaders, local officials, and environmental experts
